Why do we use movement screening at Beaches Chiropractic? Because quiet simply movement matters. How well we move is essential to reducing the risk of injury or reaching optimal levels of performance. There are different types of movement assessment depending on whether you are in pain or not in pain. If a problem has been identified in the way you move then we can recommend the most appropriate treatment for you, that may incorporate a combination of treatments for example; Chiropractic, soft tissue work, dry needling and corrective exercise.
Functional Movement Systems (FMS) is used to assess clients who are pain free. Clients are put through seven fundamental movement patterns that can identify limitations and or asymmetries in the way you move. Why is this important? Because asymmetry is the the second biggest predictor of having an injury. So if you are a professional athlete, a weekend warrior or have a physically demanding job, then FMS can help in injury prevention and subsequently enhance sporting performance by identifying dysfunction before it becomes a problem to you.
We would carry out a Selective Functional Movement Assessment (SFMA) with clients who are in pain or are injured, it uses a systematic approach to find the root cause of your symptoms. We would look at set movement patterns that a healthy individual should be able to complete with ease, such as bending and squatting, any movement that is identified as being dysfunctional we would look at closer to identify the root cause of your problem as being a mobility or a stability problem.
